The Presentation Promotes Writing!

  • You can be an author at any age! He shares his experiences with meeting authors in kindergarten!

  • Cover (Author's Purpose) for each title.

  • The importance of outlining and planning out your story.

  • Revisions! Michael will show students his first manuscript with the red pen marks made by the editing department. He will reinforce the importance of revising stories and how that generates more excitement with your story. Once is never enough.

  • Punching up stories! The fun of choosing specific words that make your story more interesting. Example - adjectives: Using the first chapter of "Creepers," showing the difference adjectives made by reading two different versions of it.

  • Being positive and not giving up! The pride that comes from being your best and being creative. How staying positive helps achieve goals.

  • Michael has ADD. Feeling like you can't get it right can make you negative.  Students who are challenged identify with Michael's situation. But it proves a valuable lesson that others can overcome these obstacles. Using that imagination to write stories helps you learn to concentrate, focus, and most of all, be creative.

  • Michael will read, "Who Are You Calling Junior," to the youngest group.  It is a guessing game that describes an animal.  If you share this book ahead of time, please do not give away the answer!

  • Michael will read the first chapter of his scary book, "Creepers," to the older students.  If you would, read the first couple of pages to them, and they will really enjoy hearing more!

  • If time permits, Michael will talk a little about the publishing process, submissions, and how books are made.

  • There will be question and answer periods at different points during the presentation.

Michael is great with talking to students on their level.  This format may seem as if it will be above the first session understanding. But do not worry. It is brought down to their level!

We hope your students enjoy it!  Michael has worked hard to make it not only informative, but very enjoyable!  It is a solid thirty minutes that will be packed with information.  It's personable.  At times funny.  It's heartfelt!
